II General Assembly of Network for Building Peace

On 15th and 16th November 2019. in Sarajevo was held the second General Assembly of Network for Building Peace. The Network for Building Peace brings together 197 members, 176 member organizations and 21 member schools.

Founded in early 2019. Academy for Women is a member of the Network for Building Peace since its inception, sharing the same values aimed at building sustainable peace, promoting human values and rights, and creating a better society for all of us.

The first part of the two-day II General Assembly of the Network for Building Peace presented the history of the Network from its beginnings as an informal network to a formal Association then about members who have done incredible work in BiH for years, there were words after about major activities in the past documented through Report on the work of the Network and the Report of the and plans for the future work.

The Assembly continued with the presentation of documents:

  1. Statute of the Peacebuilding Network
  2. Rules of Procedure of the Assembly

Of particular importance was Article 6 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly concerning the fulfillment of the requirements of organizations wishing to be members of the Assembly of the Network for Building Peace. The presentation was followed by discussion and questions about the documents presented, and a vote was taken to adopt the Peacebuilding Network documents. 

The first part of the II General Assembly of the Network for Building Peace is rounded off by the gathering of the present members and the screening of the films "Facing the Past".

The second day of the Second General Assembly of the Network for Building Peace began with a presentation of guidelines on press releases where, in addition to existing public response guidelines relating to misuse of memorialization and any type of threat, the Network may respond without prior consultation with members to topics human rights violations, hate speech, any form of violence, and any action that could endanger peace, followed by a vote where it was unanimously decided to give the Members present confidence in the Network for Building Peace to respond publicly in the above cases.

Part of the time was scheduled for the "World Cafe" where the members of the Peacebuilding Network present had the opportunity to get to know each other and present key issues for joint action, after which the Second General Assembly closed.

It has been an honor for the Women's Academy to be part of the II General Assembly of the Network for Building Peace and together with other members, participate in discussions, voting and adoption of documents relevant to the Network's future work.

We hope that the conclusions reached will serve to strengthen civil society in BiH, strengthen mutual solidarity, help address key issues for BiH society, help promote human rights, and help create a better social climate in BiH for all of us.
